Orthognathic Surgery in Dubai
Corrective Surgery for Overbites, Underbites, and Crossbites
Orthognathic Surgery is a corrective surgery in which the maxillofacial surgeon moves the upper and lower jaw to their anatomically correct position to allow a good occlusion (bite), facial symmetry, and airway opening.
Orthognathic Surgery can help patients with malocclusion (bad bite), facial asymmetry or suffer from moderate-to-severe sleep apnea. Correcting these conditions is necessary as they can cause facial dysfunction, speech issues, improper chewing, joint pain, and sleep disorders.
At Novomed, our multidisciplinary team of maxillofacial surgeons provides orthognathic surgery for patients with severe jaw deformities that can’t be treated with braces alone.
Treatment of malocclusion and facial asymmetry
Treatment starts with an evaluation performed by the oral and maxillofacial surgeon; this involves x-ray imaging, facial measurements, and complete dentition analysis to develop a comprehensive, tailored treatment plan.
The surgery is considered safe for suitable candidates and is performed under general anesthesia with a short hospital stay. It may involve treating one or both jaws, depending on the jaw deformity. Surgery on the upper jaw is done to treat open bites, crossbites and protruding upper jaws, while the lower jaw surgery aims to correct receding or protruding lower jaw.
After the surgery, you will experience some discomfort and swelling as you adjust to your new appearance. Your surgeon will provide you with specific aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing.
The healing stage can take about 6-12 weeks, during which your maxillofacial surgeon will finish the alignment procedure with braces. Braces need to be worn for months or years, depending on the type of braces and the severity of jaw deformity.
