The majority of tissues found in the human body are made up of a substance called collagen, providing elasticity and strength to these structures. The vagina is formed by some of these muscles that are high in elasticity by nature. But sometimes, often due to various factors these, muscles can lose their tightness and sensitivity alongside other vaginal dysfunction resulting in a medical condition called vaginal laxity.
Vagina laxity refers to “looseness” that occurs inside the vagina, where the connective tissues that support the vagina become loose. This often happens due to pelvic floor dysfunction related to childbirth and aging. However, it can also occur in young women who may genetically have a wider vagina.
Causes of Vaginal Laxity
There are several reasons why this condition occurs, whilst the reasons this affects many women may differ from woman to woman. The most common causes are ageing and childbirth. Other causes include the following:
- A decrease in estrogen production caused by menopause. This hormone affects the body’s ability to grow, maintain and repair the vaginal tissues.
- Natural ageing process, the muscles and tendons become weaker due to the loss of collagen resulting in thinner and weakened pelvic floor.
- Vaginal childbirth causes a drastic change in a woman’s body. The pressure of the pregnancy affects the pelvic and vaginal tissues whether the delivery was naturally or via c-section.
- Genetic disorders and less common causes such as excess body weight, vaginal trauma unrelated to childbirth and low production collagen which affects some women.
Symptoms of Vaginal Laxity
There are several symptoms that include:
- A decrease in sexual function, libido and satisfaction.
- Sounds produced by the expulsion of air from the vagina during/after sexual activity and during exercise or specific movement.
- Urinary incontinence due to the weaker support provided by the walls of the vagina to the bladder.
- Loss of vaginal lubrication, resulting in painful intercourse.
Non-Surgical Treatments:
Radiofrequency (RF) Vaginal Tightening
What does Radiofrequency (RF) treatment?
Helps improve vaginal tightness, female sexual function and mild stages of urinary incontinence.
How is it conducted?
A small treatment tip is inserted into the opening of the vagina which is moved circumferentially delivering the right amount of alternating pulses of heating and cooling waves. This helps encourage collagen production, ultimately revitalizing and restoring elasticity and moisture of the vagina.
Is there any discomfort?
There may be mild discomfort as treatment is conducted without anesthesia.
How long do the results last?
Tightening effect is progressive and can take up to a month due to the time required for the body to produce collagen. Results are not permanent, multiple sessions are required as well as maintenance treatment 1 year post last treatment.
What is the downtime?
None
What is the treatment time?
Up to 30 minutes
Laser Vaginal Tightening
What is Laser Vaginal Tightening?
Laser is an alternative to radiofrequency (RF), it is an incisionless photothermal tightening of the vaginal canal, resulting in more superficial treatment. It stimulates collagen growth, tightening the vagina walls restoring a youthful feel.
How is it conducted?
The laser wand is slowly passed over the labia and vulvar areas if required. It is then inserted into the vagina to target internal tissues stimulating the growth of collagen and strengthening the vaginal wall support.
Is there any discomfort?
This treatment may be done without anesthesia with some discomfort.
How long do the results last?
The results can last up to 18 months, from then on wards they start to slowly diminish. Multiple treatments may be required along with a maintenance treatment 12 months after initial series of sessions to achieve optimum results.
What is the downtime?
None. However, it is recommended to abstain from sexual activity for 5 dayss.
What is the treatment time?
Up to 5 minutes
O Shot and G-Spot Amplification Treatment
What is O Shot and G-Spot Amplification treatment?
An advanced non-invasive treatment that targets to alleviate female sexual dysfunction by extracting PRP, or by injecting it into the vaginal area.
How is it conducted?
A topical anesthetic is applied to the clitoris, labia and/or G spot. A small sample of blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge separating the plasma substance from the platelets. Local anesthetic is the injected by PRP and Solar to area treated and platelets are injected in the target areas.
Is there any discomfort?
Mild discomfort use of local anesthetic.
How long do the results last?
Up to 6 – 12 months.
PRP every 3 month.
Plasma every 6 month.
What is the downtime?
None. A very small amount of sensitivity maybe experienced for a day or two.
What is the treatment time?
Up to one hour
Intimate Skin Whitening
What is Intimate Skin Whitening?
Many women resort to intimate skin whitening to treat discoloration of the vagina and anal skin tissue. This dark tissue can be caused by the aging process, a bacterial infection, genetics, hormonal changes, or even after birth. The unaesthetic dark colored skin is a harmless condition, but it can affect self-confidence and a women’s intimate life.
How is it conducted?
A non-invasive laser application is applied to the genital area targeting areas of discoloration. The special laser aims to remove the melanin layer of the skin which causes the undesirable dark color.
Is there any discomfort?
The treatment is performed with local anesthesia hence very mild discomfort is experienced.
How long do the results last?
The results are usually permanent, there may be changes due to pregnancy, childbirth and the natural aging process taking over again. The number of sessions required for optimum results will vary depending on your skin type and degree of discoloration.
What is the downtime?
There is no downtime required.
What is the treatment time?
Between 10-15 minutes
Surgical Treatments:
Surgical Vaginoplasty
What is Surgical Vaginoplasty?
It tightens the vaginal muscles and surrounding tissues resulting in more tone, strength and control over the vaginal muscles. This enhances sensitivity, sexual experience and improves urinary stress incontinence.
How is surgery conducted?
The surgery aims to tighten the vagina by joining together the stretched muscles at the back of the vagina shortening it by using dissolvable stitches, and then removing excess vaginal lining and tightening the surrounding soft tissues. Once the muscles and tissues are tightened, they can support other internal structures such as the bladder and uterus.
Is there any discomfort?
No pain is experienced as surgery is under general anesthetic. Any pain or discomfort post-surgery is effectively managed by medication and will subside in a few days.
How long do the results last?
The results are usually permanent, there may be changes due to pregnancy, childbirth and excessive weight gain.
What is the downtime?
Up to 6 weeks for full recovery, it is advised to refrain from sexual activity during this period.
How long does surgery take?
Up to two hours
Fat Transfer to the Vagina
What is Fat Transfer to the Vagina?
Vaginal tightening and rejuvenation can be achieved by a fat transfer procedure. It aims to improve and restore the appearance of the labia majora (outer vaginal lips) by restoring the volume by injecting stem cell rich fat taken from your own body and into the pocket of the labia majora whilst tightening the vaginal muscles and tissues.
How is surgery conducted?
Mini liposuction is performed by the surgeon from unwanted body fat from another area of the body. The fat is purified from blood and unnecessary tissues removed. The unique technique also involves Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), that is mixed with the fat. The “growth factors” from the patient’s blood is mixed with the purified fat and injected into the muscles of the vagina opening and the labia majora.
Is there any discomfort?
Procedure is conducted under general anesthetic.
How long do the results last?
The results are usually permanent, there may be changes due to pregnancy, childbirth and excessive weight gain.
What is the downtime?
Up to 7 days
How long does surgery take?
Up to an hour
