Am I the Right Candidate?
A candidate for monsplasty or pubic lift surgery will ideally have the following indications:
- You have excess skin on the mons pubis
- You have excessive fullness of the mons pubis area
- You are embarrassed to wear swimwear and other types of clothing
- You are physically and emotionally healthy
- “Mons pannus” or separate focal overhanging mons pubis area
- You feel physical and emotional discomfort during sexual activity
- You experience excess drooping of the mons pubis
How is surgery conducted?
A horizontal incision is made at the upper edge of the pubic region just below the navel. The underlying muscles are gently raised and tightened to create a firm, defined pubic area. Excess skin is then removed, and pubic skin is raised into its newer position. Dissolvable stitches are then used to close the incision.
Is there any discomfort?
There is no discomfort during the procedure, as this procedure is conducted under a local anesthetic or a general anesthetic. The choice of anesthetic is dependent on the patients’ current condition and results desired. Discomfort may be present during the recovery period; however, your plastic surgeon will prescribe medications to manage symptoms of pain.
How long to the results last?
The results can be permanent. However, your results may be affected if any changes occur due to pregnancy, childbirth, and weight gain.
What to expect after surgery?
Monsplasty surgery can take up to only one hour to complete, and downtime is up to one week. Most patients can return to their normal routine and go back to work at this time. High impact activities and exercises should be avoided for about three weeks. The swelling will completely resolve in about three months after the surgery.
