What do pulmonologists treat?

Pulmonologists treat medical conditions such as bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and sleep apnea. They also conduct tests to find the causes of symptoms that include shortness of breath and chronic cough. In addition, pulmonologists treat sleep apnea and perform lung function tests.

When patients have lung problems that require further investigation, pulmonologists perform one or more tests to determine the underlying cause of the problem. These tests include:

CT scan to create detailed images of the chest, including muscles, bones, organs, and blood vessels; X-ray thoracoscopy, which creates a series of images that are then used to create a video showing how well your lungs are functioning; chest ultrasound to help your doctor examine the organs and structures of your chest; pulse oximetry to determine your blood oxygen saturation level; bronchoscopy, which examines your airways to see if there are any problems with your trachea, lower airways, throat, or larynx; thoracotomy, where your doctor removes a sample of fluid from around your lungs to check for disease or infection; and sleep studies to help diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep apnea.

Cyclic rhythm disorders: The body’s internal clock regulates biological processes over a 24-hour period. Any disruption to this clock can lead to problems and affect the quality and vibrancy of your sleep.

Common circadian rhythm disorders include several effects, such as:

Early sleep-wake syndrome, where the sleep-wake cycle is out of sync with your daily routine. You feel sleepy early and wake up early, contrary to your needs and schedule. For example, you might feel sleepy at 7:00 PM and wake up at 4:00 AM. Delayed sleep onset syndrome, where you stay up late and are unable to wake up early for work the next day. Disrupted 24-hour sleep-wake cycle, where sleep disturbances lead to restlessness, poor sleep at night, and daytime sleepiness.

We have selected the latest clinical findings in sleep regulation. Our treatment combines effective sleep techniques with external stimuli, such as bright light therapy and sleep rhythm rebalancing.

Rotating limb movement disorder

In this condition, your limbs, and sometimes your legs, experience a sudden jerking motion that can last from 20 to 40 seconds, during which your legs are bent upwards.

This repetitive movement can last for a few minutes or several hours. While this type of involuntary movement disorder is not a serious medical condition, it can contribute to chronic insomnia or lead to daytime fatigue. Sometimes, it may be a symptom of a serious condition that requires treatment, such as diabetes or kidney disease. If this disorder occurs alongside restless legs syndrome (RLS), or if it causes frequent insomnia or daytime fatigue, it can affect your lifestyle, and you may need medication. This will reduce the jerking movements and help you sleep.

Restless legs syndrome (RLS)

This disorder affects part of the nervous system and is characterized by an irresistible urge to move the legs when at rest. This urge is usually accompanied by unpleasant sensations such as tingling and pins and needles. It is also possible, though less common, for this syndrome to have symptoms in other parts of the body, such as the trunk, arms, or face. Restless legs syndrome can severely disrupt a person’s life and lifestyle. Parkinson’s disease and diabetes often include symptoms of restless legs syndrome.

Treatment for mild cases includes lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, while medication is used to help relieve symptoms in severe cases, as is the case with other related conditions.

Narcolepsy

Narcolepsy is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, hallucinations, narcolepsy, and in some cases, aphasia (short periods of sudden muscle weakness). There is no cure, but medication and behavioral modifications can help relieve symptoms.
