What is an endoscopic brow lift?
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a popular procedure that rejuvenates the forehead and eyebrow, corrects the signs of aging, and restores the natural appearance of the upper facial area.
Unlike the traditional brow lift surgery, an endoscope, a very thin tube equipped with a light and camera, is used during an endoscopic brow lift surgery. This technique allows the surgeon to operate on the muscles and tissues underneath the skin during surgery with more precision and visibility. Using this advanced technique, our experienced surgeons can perform brow lift in a less invasive way that provides optimal results with minimal downtime.
Am I a suitable candidate for a brow lift?
This cosmetic procedure may be the right option for you if you have one or more of the following indications:
- Droopy eyebrows
- Low, sagging eyebrows
- Eyebrows that are not symmetrical
- You don’t want to undergo an invasive surgery
- Eyebrows that look angry, tired, or sad
- Deep horizontal creases in the forehead
- Sagging brow that is contributing to sagging upper eyelids
How to prepare for this procedure?
If you smoke, you should quit smoking several weeks before surgery since it can slow down blood flow and affect the healing period. You should also avoid medications containing aspirin and anti-inflammatories for two weeks before surgery as they can cause increased bleeding.
You will be required to fast for 7 hours prior to surgery, and it is essential not to wear any make-up or creams on the day of surgery. It is recommended that you arrange in advance how you will be getting home after surgery and ask a friend or family member to accompany you home.
How is it Done?
An endoscopic brow lift is commonly done under general anesthesia. Your surgeon will create small incisions behind the hairline to insert tiny instruments used to perform the surgery. These incisions will not leave any visible scars. An endoscope (a long thin tube with a camera and light mounted on its end) is also inserted through one of the incisions and enables a clear view of your underlying muscles and tissues.
During the procedure, your plastic surgeon will reposition and readjust the muscles of the brow and forehead and will then remove excess muscle tissue and fat. Forehead tissues will then be anchored in place with sutures. After this, your skin will be repositioned and secured in an elevated position.
Once the surgery is complete, your surgeon will close the incisions using medical sutures.
An endoscopic brow lift can be done as a stand-alone procedure or combined with other facial procedures, such as eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or a facelift. A brow lift can restore a refreshed appearance; however, if there is too much lax skin on the eyelids, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) will be necessary to remove the excess skin.
The endoscopic method is less invasive than the traditional method and allows the patient to recover more quickly. Due to the incisions being shorter and smaller, there is less blood loss and fewer side effects.
Recovery after endoscopic brow lift
Recovery may vary from patient to patient, and the surgeon will advise regarding the downtime, usually between 1-2 weeks, to allow for adequate rest and healing.
It’s common to have some bruising and swelling after the surgery, and bandages should be worn for the first 24 hours. You can reduce swelling by sleeping in an elevated position for the first week and gently applying ice packs to the affected areas.
You should not shower for the first 24 hours. After this, you can use mild shampoo to wash the hair, but it must be thoroughly dried to prevent bacteria that can cause infection, and you should be cautious with heat when drying. It is better to dab gently (instead of rubbing) with a soft towel to dry the scalp, hair, and face.
Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for up to two weeks but remain active and take gentle walks to aid circulation.
Stitches or staples will be removed around ten days after the surgery, and a follow-up consultation will be arranged to review progress and ensure proper healing is taking place.
