Overview
Femto Lasik is the safest and most customized laser surgery to reshape the cornea and correct refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. This technique allows surgeons to use a femtosecond laser to create a small flap on the eye surface that is lifted while the cornea is reshaped. The corneal flap can be restored without surgical sutures, enabling a fast healing process.
Femto Lasik offers many advantages, including:
- Short recovery time.
- Minimal postoperative pain.
- Simple, safe, and precise procedure.
- No corneal damage.
- Improved and sharper vision.
Am I a suitable candidate for this procedure?
You must be at least 18 years old to be able to undergo the Femto-Lasik procedure. Other conditions include the following:
- No serious eye diseases should be present
- Laser eye surgery is prohibited during pregnancy
- The cornea must be thick enough to create a flap
- The visual impairment should not have changed significantly in the last two years
What to expect before Femto Lasik?
During the consultation, the ophthalmologist will discuss your treatment goals, review your medical history, and run some tests and examinations to make sure that the procedure is suitable for you.
You should remove your contact lenses and avoid using cosmetics or creams near your eyes for a couple of days before the procedure. You will also need to arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure.
What happens during Femto Lasik?
During the Femto Lasik procedure, you will lay down and look up at the laser device positioned above your face. Your eyes will be numbed using numbing drops and will be kept open using a device called an eye speculum. The surgeon will use a femtosecond laser to create a hinged flap of surface corneal tissue. The flap is then lifted and folded back and a computer controlled excimer laser is used to reshape the corneal surface beneath the flap. At the end of the procedure the corneal flap is folded back into place without causing surface damage.
What to expect after Femto LASIK?
You may experience minor burning or itching after your procedure. These symptoms are normal and only last a few days. Following surgery, you will be given antibacterial eye drops and pain-relieving medication to relieve any discomfort.
For at least 4 weeks after your surgery, you should avoid strenuous activities. After LASIK, your vision improves quickly, and you will be able to see clearly the next day. For the first few months after surgery, your eyesight may continue to vary. It can take three to six months for the surgery to take full effect.
Are there any complications with Femto-Lasik
The risk of infection and other complications is very low as the procedure is carried out in a sterile environment, without direct human contact.
